Bearding

In May 2010, I saw a story on CNN about the World Beard & Moustache Championships. I had read somewhere that a beard is like a fingerprint--there are no two alike--so I got curious what my beard would look like if I just let it grow.

I had worn a beard of varying lengths since 2002 when I no longer had to shave for a job, but my newfound curiosity helped me discover a whole culture of "bearding."I entered myself in the 2011 Beard Nation "Best Beard" contest, and with the help of the Aggie network won that contest. I started wishing for a local bearding community and dreaming about how I might help in that cause. The Aggieland Beard and Moustache Club was the first incarnation of this community. After a couple of years, the name was changed to Brazos Valley Whisker Club to be more inclusive to the whole community.
